Words from one of our volunteers:
I just wanted to share with you what a great time I had with 3 of the youth yesterday.
We went to Create Space in Langley. One made a stuffed dragon out of felt, another started making cloth napkins (the sewing machine malfunctioned so she will finish next time) and made a collage. One painted on canvas, did some drawing and created a beautiful thank you card for the instructor. They each wrote a heart felt note to her, thanking her for providing a safe place for them, which moved her to tears.
I just love the youth at Ryan’s House. I’m finding little opportunities to spend time with them individually or in small groups and just love them all.
Can I move in?
Thanks everyone for this amazing place.

Volunteer Spotlight
Lynn and Don
We would like to take a moment to thank Don and Lynn for all the amazing work they do around here. Don has braved the freezing weather to volunteer outside and ensure things still get done. Lynn has taken on new tasks with excitement and powered through them. These two are so full of love and show it in everything they do. They are super stars in cleaning, fixing, and organizing. Thank you for all you do! |

Marchele Hatchner
Marchele Hatchner is our volunteer of the quarter and now a new board member! Marchele came to us as a Drop-in Center volunteer, helping to sort and organize clothing and toiletry donations and hang out in the Drop-in Center with our wonderful youth!
Marchele has used her realtor skills to find our new location. She worked so very hard to help us obtain the Countryside Inn motel in Coupeville. She has shared the stories of our youth and the motel with her friends and has gotten them involved in different aspects of the organization and with the purchase of the inn.
Thank you Marchele for all of the extra volunteer hours, hanging out in the cold, write ups about the project and much, much more.
We couldn't do it without you!

Becky Mooring
After, moving here from Texas, Becky Mooring became aware of the homeless youth population and wanted to do something about it so she contacted Ryan’s House For Youth and volunteered for two years. Becky rallied the troops at Christian Life Center within both the youth and senior programs. She shared the stories with her friends and has gotten them involved in different aspects of the organization. Becky has been a laundry lady, a fundraiser, and a community educator and most importantly was our volunteer coordinator. Just recently she moved back to Texas with her family. She will be missed!

Karla (Gilbert) Crouch
Congratulations to Karla (Gilbert) Crouch who won herself a spot as a holiday model for Maurice’s clothing stores and won a very nice donation to Ryan’s House….thank you Maurice’s and thank you Karla! Clinton native Karla Gilbert was selected as one of 12 models to represent Maurices, a national clothing store chain with a store in Oak Harbor. Gilbert was one of more than 500 contestants from across the country who vied for online votes to be among the final 20 models who attended a casting call in Minneapolis, Minn. A judging panel from Maurices, along with celebrity judge and stylist Christopher Straub of Lifetime’s “Project Runway,” met each woman earlier this month to get to know her, and find out what makes her passionate about fashion and her… Click here to read the full article |
